For almost 30 years, the city of East Point has arguably held the largest free Fourth of July fireworks show on the south side of Atlanta; and this year will not be any different. As they have for the past few years, the East Point Main Street Association will work to put on a spectacular show that will include food vendors, stage entertainment, a celebrity dunk tank, face painting and more.
There are two new attractions this year that will hopefully help draw in more visitors to the event, according to Erin Rodgers, main street/downtown development manager. One of those attractions is the Carnival, which will be held June 30 to July 4 at the same spot as the Fourth of July celebration—at the city’s commons area next to the East Point Library, 2757 Main St. Hours for the free carnival are June 30 to July 2, 5 to 10 p.m. and July 3 and July 4, 4 to 10 p.m.
“This is a huge addition and we think it’s going to be a great amenity for the community to bring out their family and friends and have fun at an old-fashioned carnival,” said Ms. Rodgers.
The Fourth of July celebration itself will be held July 4 from 4 to 10 p.m.; the fireworks show will begin at 9:30 p.m. This year, Ms. Rodgers mentioned they have upgraded the fireworks show and will feature a new Pyro Digital Fireworks Show that will be synchronized to music.
“Last year we had upwards of 12,000 people and we expect that to be more this year because we’re adding the carnival and the digital fireworks show,” she said. “We’ll have remote speakers throughout the site so people can see and be a part of it.”
While this event is being mostly sponsored and put on by the association, which is a 501 (c)3 nonprofit organization, Ms. Rodgers said they have been working very closely with East Point city departments such as parks and recreation, sanitation, economic development, police and fire to have a smooth event.
She added she is looking forward to seeing how the visitors respond to the new additions to this year’s festivities.
“I think the carnival will be a huge success and we plan on bringing it out every year and possibly at another event throughout the year,” said Ms. Rodgers.
Can't wait!! This year is going to be fantastic!
